Gratitude in Action: 3 Ways It Can Transform Your Life and Business

Gratitude has become a big part of my life. It is actually my fist "rule of happiness" that I came up with for myself years ago: find something to be grateful for.

So I try to practice it every day, although its not always easy. Some days all I can do is fall back on my two rules, but I can usually find at least one thing to appreciate.

And that brings me some much needed perspective. Because I've got it better than a lot of people.

This is actually the first way that gratitude can help you in your life: Perspective.

On a good day, I write what and who I'm grateful for in a journal and even send the person I'm thinking of a card in the mail.

While I'm doing that, I think about how that person is going to feel when they get that card. Will they smile? Will they laugh?

And that makes me feel really good.

That's the second way gratitude can help you in your life: It makes you feel good.

Sometimes after I've let that person know how grateful I am for them, they'll send me a message, or call, or make a post to me. And when I see them again, sometimes they thank me. But whatever they do, I feel a bit closer to them, and I think they do to me.

I believe that people should know they are appreciated. And we should tell them.

That's the third way gratitude can help you in your life: It makes someone else feel good knowing they are appreciated.

..but this post is also supposed to be about business, right? It's right there in the title! Ok, ok. Well, here it goes then.

This first example is from the competitive world of real estate, where it can be difficult for a realtor to stand out and be remembered by potential clients.

Annie is a realtor who was holding an open house. After the open house, she sent a thank you card to each attendee, thanking them for attending.

One of those cards ended up on the fridge of one of the attendees and when her friend was visiting and saw it, she was so impressed by the thoughtful follow-up that she decided to hire Annie to sell her house.

The result was a $400,000 listing!

This is the first way gratitude can help you in your business: making people feel appreciated makes you memorable.

My second business example is from Bijan Yusufzai, an IT recruiter, who had been trying to connect with a key hiring manager for over a year.

When he learned the manager was grieving from a personal loss, Bijan just sent him a sympathy card.

The manager was so moved by the gesture that he invited Bijan to meet, and ultimately brought Bijan's recruiting firm onto their job panel. And that resulted in a $250,000 deal!

That is the second way gratitude can help you in your business: being thoughtful shows how much you care, and that means a lot to people.

This also highlights a rule in card-sending: *the card always arrives at just the right time.*

Now my final business success story related to gratitude is a sweet one!

Imagine Energy Concepts is a solar panel company who found a unique way to leave a lasting impression on potential customers.

After each job bid, they send a thank-you card and a box of brownies to the potential customer.

Although their prices are often higher than their competitors, the sales guys tell the manager that customers are choosing them because of that gesture.

This is the third way gratitude can help you in your business: when you value relationships over transactions, people feel valued and trust that your business will treat them right.

OK, now its your turn.

Think of one person you are grateful for today, in your life, and one person in your business.

Now --> let them know it!

You've seen what it can do for you, for them, and for your business.

I hope you'll take that extra step today to make yourself feel better and put a smile on someone's face :)

with thanks,
Brian

How a Realtor turned $85 into a $2 Million Condo listing!

The $85 Strategy That Unlocked a $2 Million Home In the high-stakes world of real estate, losing a deal by a narrow margin can be devastating. For one buyer looking for a townhouse in an exclusive golf course community, that heartbreak became a reality. Despite a strong offer, they lost out on a $2 million home by just $9,000. With only 80 homes in the entire community, the chances of another property hitting the market felt slim. While many would have waited for a new listing to pop up on the MLS, a realtor named Chip decided to take a different approach. He didn't wait for the market to move; he moved the market himself. Thinking Outside the Listing Box Chip took a simple photo of the type of home his client wanted, capturing the essence of the golf course lifestyle. He placed that image into a personalized card and sent it to 40 homeowners within that specific community. The total investment? Just $85. The strategy was simple: reach out to people who weren't yet thinking a...
